What is StormNet?

A global severe-weather monitoring system.

StormNet processes weather data from several sources and tries to identify dangerous weather developments as early as possible. Instead of a single number, it builds a picture from many signals and turns them into a risk assessment.

It never claims to predict a tornado with absolute certainty. Meteorology is probabilistic — StormNet shows you where conditions are dangerous, and how confident the assessment is.

Emergency system

WHEN SECONDS MATTER.

The emergency button lets a tracker raise an alert in two ways: reporting an accident, or reporting a tornado turning with the observed direction. The report is transmitted to authorized trackers within the configured radius.

Last message

YOUR LAST MESSAGE CAN BE HEARD.

The Android app offers a "Last Message" function. You record a voice message yourself, and only after you confirm it does the app transmit it. There is no hidden microphone recording — recording always starts with a user action.

The message is stored on the API server and can be managed according to the retention time configured by the operator.

Architecture

How the system fits together.

The API server is a standalone Java JAR. The desktop app is not the server — it is a client. The API server runs separately and handles communication, authentication and data storage for every client.

Frequently asked questions

What is StormNet?

StormNet is a global weather and severe-weather monitoring system. It processes weather data from several sources and tries to identify dangerous weather developments early. It consists of a desktop application, an Android tracker app and a separate Java API server.

How does tornado detection work?

The system combines meteorological signals such as radar signatures, wind shear, CAPE, pressure, humidity and storm-cell movement into a risk assessment. It is an estimation of probability — never a guarantee that a tornado will or will not occur.

Is the system an official weather warning service?

No. StormNet is not an official meteorological or emergency service and does not replace official warnings. Always follow your national weather service and local authorities.

What is the Tracker Network?

A voluntary network of Android devices. A tracker can transmit GPS, receive weather and hazard information, discover nearby trackers, receive and create emergency events and communicate with others.

Does the Android app track my location?

Only if you enable it. GPS transmission, background tracking and nearby discovery are separate opt-in settings.

Can I disable location tracking?

Yes. Every tracking feature can be switched off in the app at any time, and the phone number is controlled separately.

What is the Emergency Button?

A button in the Android app to report an accident or a tornado turning observation, including a direction. The report is sent to authorized trackers within the configured radius. Emergency events are user reports, not confirmed rescue operations.

What is Last Message?

An optional voice message you record yourself. After you confirm it, it is sent to the API server and broadcast to authorized nearby trackers. The app never records without your action.

Where is my data stored?

On the API server that the operator of your network runs — a standalone Java JAR. This website only hosts the public downloads.

How long are Last Messages stored?

According to the retention time configured on that API server. The operator can manage and delete stored messages.

What platforms are supported?

A Windows desktop application (Windows 10 / 11), an Android tracker app and a web dashboard served by the API server.
